Scope
A self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA) is a critical device that provides breathable air in environments with oxygen deficiency, smoke, hazardous gases, and other airborne contaminants that pose a risk to health. Workers handling dangerous materials or operating in contaminated zones must typically wear an SCBA for protection.

This course is essential for companies with emergency response teams or those that store chemicals on-site that could create hazardous situations. It educates employees on proper SCBA usage, the specific protective gear needed for different chemicals, and the associated risks of chemical reactivity and health hazards, among other vital safety topics.

General Course Objectives:
The objective of this course is to educate users of self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA) to work safely and securely in applications under breathing protection. Amongst others, laws and regulations, breathing principles, hazardous gases and vapors and the explanation of check, donning and doffing procedures are covered. Course Content:
  1. Conditions when SCBA will be required
  2. The relevant legislation and guidelines for the use of SCBA
  3. The general components of a SCBA Set
  4. The passage of air through a SCBA Set
  5. The safe working practices and controls while using SCBA
  6. The correct testing and maintenance of the SCBA Set
  7. SCBA Entry control procedure
  8. SCBA familiarizations
  9. Practical exercises:
    • SCBA Donning, testing, & maintenance
    • SCBA practical on field
    • SCBA entry in a confined space
    • Supply Air Breathing Apparatus (SABA/Airline)

All persons who successfully complete the course based on the performance standards will receive
  • A PT Samson Tiara certificate for Self-Contained Breathing Apparatus (SCBA);
  • A laminated wallet course qualification card.
